The first installation of a photovoltaic solar system was completed last Saturday at the Hotel Principe, in Malfa, kicking off the implementation of Salina's Clean Energy Transition Agenda. The project is the first to come out of a collaboration between Salina's three municipalities and other key island stakeholders including citizens, local businesses, and academia.

Since 2019, Salina is one of the Clean Energy for EU Islands Initiative's pilot islands for the energy transition, an initiative through which the European Commission promotes the path towards energy self-sufficiency, as well as environmental, economic and social sustainability of the Union's islands.

The 9.6 kW power plant will produce over 12,000 kilowatt hours every year, thus allowing the island to save around 4,000 liters of diesel and 11 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Seen from above, the 24 dark photovoltaic modules in monocrystalline silicon are the same color as the sea and not have no visual impact. The installation in a valuable environmental context, such as that of Salina, demonstrates the possibility of a perfect integration of photovoltaic systems with buildings and landscape, and is the first example of many others to come created by the Purchase Group promoted by the three Municipalities of Salina, a Group that already sees the adhesion of a large number
of families and accommodation and production facilities on the island.
