On 19 March the European Commission launched the first edition of RESponsible island prize competition, funded under Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation programme. This prize aims to award islands with innovative and sustainable local renewable energy production for use in electricity, heating, cooling and transport. The three winners will receive a cash prize of €500,000, €250,000 and €100,000, respectively.
The contest is open to islands located within the territory of an EU Member State (including Overseas Countries and Territories linked to them) or countries associated to Horizon 2020 and to any legal entity or group of legal entities representing the respective island.
On 30 August, from 15:00 to 16:00 (Brussels time), the European Commission is organising a webinar presenting the RESponsible Island Prize, followed by a Questions & Answers session. Interested parties can register for the webinar via this survey until 28 August. After registration, you will receive the link to the webinar.
The deadline for applications to the RESponsible island prize is 26 September 2019. You can find more information, including the Rules of Contest, on the Commission’s energy research website.
