In the energy transition towards a fossil-free future, there is often the question where action and implementation should come from. Should it come from the top, the political level, or from the bottom, the individual or community level? We can already see some action on Gotland coming from the government and region to implement solutions in the energy system and we have individuals, households and communities working on the transformation by implementing local solutions, like solar panels on rooftops or small-scale storage solutions.
However, we often miss the middle actor who strengthens the cooperation between those two levels and this is exactly the role of Energicentrum Gotland. We are trying to work with both levels. On one hand, we are trying to accelerate the energy transition by working with the political and business-level, and on the other hand, we are coming together with private households, parishes and the general community to increase knowledge around energy transition and explain how everyone can contribute. Therefore, we have implemented counselling of individuals and companies in questions around energy consumption and efficiency and we initiated several events to increase motivation and knowledge for the energy transition.
We believe that together, we can create a fossil-free energy system by 2040 and be a role model for other regions in Sweden to follow us and learn from Gotland’s energy transition.
